Focus groups: structure, supervision and analysis
A focus group is a qualitative research method. Six to twelve people give their opinions on a theme in a carefully planned discussion. The manual provides a description of the structure, supervision and analysis of focus groups.

Reliable input
To be able to collect reliable input from the focus group, it is important that the discussion leader:
- puts the participants at ease
- creates an open and safe environment
- gives participants the space to answer questions in their own words
- allows participants to explain the deeper meaning of their answers
The discussion will take place with a list of topics for discussion. Recordings will made during the focus group meeting using a voice recorder or video camera. A report of the discussion will also be made. What does a focus group generate?

Focus group conclusions will form the basis for:
- planning and implementing improvements
- policy development
